Footage shows Curtis Stewart weaving around other motorists on the M6 after being spotted driving through red lights at over 70mph A drink driver has been jailed after leading police on an 100mph chase down a motorway in a transit van. Dashcam footage captured the moment that Curtis Stewart, 26, fled officers on the M6 after being spotted driving through red lights at over 70mph in Birmingham. In the video Stewart, of Holbrooks, Coventry, can be seen dangerously weaving around fellow motorists at high speed. Police try to box him in, but Stewart races onto a grass verge before reversing back onto the dual carriageway. Warwick Crown Court heard he reached speeds in excess of 100mph in the van near to Junction 5 for Castle Bromwich, Birmingham, at around 4am on August 15. He left the motorway 15 miles later at Junction 3 for Coventry, where he hurtled through two sets of red lights at 70mph in a 30mph zone. Stewart was eventually arrested when he stalled the van, and was found to be one-and-a-half times over the drink-drive limit. He admitted dangerous driving at the court on October 11. He also pleaded guilty to another charge of dangerous driving, for driving the wrong way on a roundabout before crashing into a car in Foleshill Road, Coventry. This other incident took place on June 11, and saw Stewart get out of his Transit van, apologise, laugh, and then drive off, reported The Coventry Telegraph . Stewart was sentenced to 23 months in prison - 14 months for the M6 chase and nine months for the Foleshill Road smash. He was also banned from driving for four years and 11 months. PC Mitch Darby, from the Central Motorway Police Group, was one of the officers involved in the pursuit. Speaking after the case, he said: "His driving was shocking. "He was first spotted by a police dog unit in Birmingham doing over 70mph and going through red lights, and that was without a police car behind him. "He drove up an embankment before temporarily reversing down the M6 and just missed a stinger when he exited the motorway.
